7 players Man Utd could sell to raise funds for Erik ten Haag's two transfer targets.

 

Manchester United want to sign a world class striker and midfielder this summer, but Erik ten Haag will be operating under financial restrictions, meaning sales will be necessary.

Manchester United have shown a lot of improvement under Erik ten Haag, but the Dutchman is already planning major changes to his squad this summer.

United spent £220m at the start of the 2022/23 season to bring in the likes of Anthony, Casemiro, Lisandro Martinez, Tyrell Malacia and Christian Eriksen. They definitely cannot afford to do something similar in the upcoming summer transfer window, with £307m in transfer fees still owed, and UEFA new Financial Stability rules on the horizon.

With the loan move of Wout Weghorst in the works following the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo, the Dutchman's plans to sign a world class striker and midfielder will require some sale, because players like Jude Bellingham or Frenkie de jong and Harry Kane or Victor Osimhen aren't gonna come in cheap.

Here are 7 players Man Utd could release to fund their project:

1. Harry Maguire

Maguire is the first and most obvious player who could exit the club this summer. The English center-back  has been sidelined this season, managing only four PL starts. 

2. Aaron Wan-Bissaka 

Diogo Dalot has established himself as United's first choice right back ahead of the English man this season. His future at the club remains uncertain.

3. Fred 

The Brazilian midfielder has been a regular at the club for the past few years, but doubts remain over his consistency. The arrival of Casemiro at the club means Fred will no longer be first choice for holding midfield. With his contract expiring by June 2024, a decision might be made soon.

4. Donny Van de beek

Van de beek has been ruled out for the rest of the season due to a knee injury, so it is unlikely that he'll leave the club by summer as other teams wouldn't like to sign injured players. But United will no doubt consider bids if they come in.

The Dutchman's £35m move from Ajax in 2020 has been a huge failure. 

5. Phil Jones

Phil Jones is still at Man Utd, but with his contract set to expire by June, United are searching for potential buyers to get his wages off the books.

6. Scott Mctominay 

The arrival of Casemiro and Eriksen shook up the United midfield, which also lost the likes of Paul Pogba, Nemanja matic , Jesse linguard and Juan mata, and this trend could also see the exit of Mctominay.

 Newcastle have been linked with the 26 yr old as Man UTD would be more than happy to get a good fee from him.

7. Facundo Pellestri

Pellestri made his long awaited debut in their 3-0 win FA cup win over Charlton on Tuesday after playing for Uruguay at the world cup. The young striker has expressed his frustration with the club over lack of opportunities and could push for an exit if this continues.

With competition from Marcus Rashford, Sancho, Elanga, and Garnacho, that might well prove to be the case.
