The Himba is a tribe located at the North-west of Nambia where they habe been for 900 years.
The Ovahimba and Ovazimba tribes of Northern Namibia’s Kunene and Omusati regions have a strong culture that has resisted western influence and agitation.
With a population of over 50,000 people, the women go about their everyday lives milking their cows, caring for their children, and performing other substantial responsibilities, while the males go hunting, often for an extended amount of time.
The Himba are a polygamous people that marry off their daughters to male partners chosen by their fathers once they reach puberty.
One significant and amazing thing about this tribe is their red colour skin called, the otjize paste ( a combination of butterfat, omuzumba scrub and ochre) and its function is to protect their skin from the sun and insect bites.
The Himba tribe doesn’t bath, they only cover themselves up wit otjize leaf which gives them exceptional body smell as if they use a fragrance.
