In a shock move, German club Borussia Dortmund have sacked their manager Thomas Tuchel. The 43-year-old, who took over from Jurgen Klopp, was incharge of the club for two seasons and helped them win their first trophy(DFB Pokal) in 5 years. Dortmund finished 3rd in the Bundesliga, this season.
"We would like to thank Thomas Tuchel and his coaching staff for the sporting success at BVB, which resulted in a win last Saturday at the DFB Pokalsieg in Berlin against Eintracht Frankfurt. For his professional future we wish Thomas Tuchel only the very best," read the club's official statement.
Tuchel, who won 69 of his 107 matches incharge has the cushion of a compensation package that could cost Dortmund around £2.5million.
It is rumoured that the disconnect between Tuchel and Dortmund CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke has made the coach's departure inevitable. The manager wasn't keen on selling the likes of Henrikh Mkhitaryan & Ilkay Gündogan in the summer and wasn't overjoyed by the return of Mario Gotze - a move reportedly driven by the Watzke.
